It was our first time as a family of four to the zoo...and what an adventure! What started with very little sleep the night before and an illegal exit off Hwy 290 to avoid a massive traffic jam, turned into a beautiful day of active animals at the zoo. Let me start by expressing my gratitude for Scott's participation in the day...having an equal number of adults to children in our case proved to be a lifesaver.
Scott and I enjoyed the zoo quite a bit...we do each time we go. I'm not so sure about Abby or Katherine. So far, the zoo seems to be one large playground for Abigail. The fact that there are animals we don't see everyday doesn't seem to phase her.

She seemed to like the sea lions at the beginning and the giraffes and elephants at the end. If I had to guess, she was easily focused in the beginning and then completely exhausted by the end. Not to mention, elephants and giraffes are hard to miss. Even Abigail commented on their size with exaggerated, outstretched arms. Most of the day, however, was spent collecting leaves and sticks and climbing outside the rope-lined walkways. Scott's job was keeping her running in the right direction and attempting to capture her attention to show her monkeys, lions and bears...mostly to no avail.
All the while, Katherine tried to sleep despite the brisk wind and bright sun. For those of us who were awake, the weather couldn't have been better...but Katherine wasn't particularly pleased. However, a ride in the Baby Bjorn turned out to be the most comfortable...for her. :) My job simply was to keep Katherine as happy as possible, push the loaded down stroller (with no children), and attempt a few photos.
All in all, we had a good time at the zoo...especially considering it was our first big outing as a family. One note regarding Katherine, she has blessed me by sleeping "through the night" a few times - meaning 6 hours or more at a time. And, I swear she is smiling intentionally. Will keep you posted as more excitement develops....
